An Untitled Performance in Collaboration With an Ex-Lover, 2017
Live situation
In summer 2017, the artist asked his ex-lover who has been living in Montreal, Quebec, to meet him at the US-Canada border. The artist wasn’t able to travel to Canada to visit her because his US visa had expired in September 2014 and he was living in California illegally at the time. She was also unable to come to the US because of the Executive Order 13769, titled “Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States,” known as the travel ban*.
*The artist deliberately do not use the term “muslim ban” because it is an order that impacts all citizens of specific nations and is not explicitly targeting only the religious citizens of these countries.
