N.N. 15,518 articulates a strategy to raise the visibility of the people that disappear at EU borders, or of those already present in the territory that come to occupy spaces of exception in the migration management structure, such as detention centres for migrants. The project challenges the concept of citizenship, which is reflected in the structures that uphold and regulate migration security in the EU, as well as distance from the colonies which pushes public interest – civil society and the media – in these deaths, disappearances and abuse into the background.

Recently the organisation United Against Racism recently published a list of 16,264 documented refugee deaths through Fortress Europe. Of them, 15,518 people have been identified as NN (no name) on the list. NN also means "Nacht und Nebel" (Night and Fog), a decret of the Third Reich about some  programs to dissapear suspects and war’s prisoners in the occupied countries.

The display of the project consists in a printed version of the list of 15.518 cases of migrants who have died in the migratory control structure and whose names are unknown, the same list was reproduced in large scale panels. A video of the talk projected together with the poster of the public event. In a different area a scheme of the institutions, states and private companies that manage the migratory control system is shown with their own explanation of their role in the control of non-european migrants. A last area shows interviews to the speakers of the talk where they explain their point of view in relation to the structure of migratory control.

CAST

(no name).
