Not in an Emancipated Way is an exhibition conformed by a series of works that artist Gaby Felten has produced during her residency. Felten’s installations, videos and sculptures react to her direct environment and context, naively responding to the visual input she happens upon in Barcelona with a hands-on approach. Certain elements that are repeated throughout the city - the plaza, the public fountain, the siphon, the marble street sign, the beggar’s sign, the shopping trolley of recycled goods, the influence of Latin American and African culture and many more - are the stimuli for Felten to react from her Western globalized labour context position.
In the same way that she presents herself within the Barcelona context, partially as an artist, the works all incorporate an element of fragmentation: a broken street sign, a torn-up beggar’s sign, and cut-up or reconfigured maps of countries in the African, American and European continents, creating a kaleidoscopic witness of the encounter between the artist and the city

Not in an Emancipated Way es una exposición conformada por una serie de trabajos que la artista Gaby Feltenha ha producido durante su residencia. Sus instalaciones, videos y esculturas reaccionan a su contexto y ambiente directo, respondiendo ingenuamente y con un enfoque práctico a la información visual de sus encuentros fortuitos con Barcelona. Ciertos elementos que se repiten en toda la ciudad - la plaza, la fuente pública, el sifón, la placa de la calle de mármol, el cartel del mendigo, el carrito de la compra de productos reciclados, la influencia de la cultura de América Latina o África, y muchos más - son los estímulos a los que Felten reacciona desde su posición en un contexto laboral globalizado occidental.
De la misma forma que ella se presenta al contexto de Barcelona, parcialmente como artista, todas las obras incorporan un elemento de fragmentación: una señal de tráfico rota, el signo de un mendigo desgarrado o mapas de países de África, América Latina y el continente europeo reconfigurados, creando un testigo caleidoscópico del encuentro entre artista y ciudad.
