Work That Stands in the Way of Work is an installation that uses the anonymous labour of 4 professional artists, a video projection illuminating a configuration of objects and a recorded narration to accompany the video. In this work I comment about the amount of labour and labourers needed to produce a work of art, which in many cases is credited to a single author. I engaged an artist to build the structure for me free of cost. I engaged another artist to transport and store the installation between exhibitions for the price of 3 Time Bank hour notes. I asked yet another artist to lend me a large mirror for 2 exhibitions (one at GEMAK, one at KABK), and finally, I asked one more artist to weld a three-dimensional, self-supporting object out of steel for me. All this labour was necessary so that I could produce a physical manifestation of a whimsical image. In the name of frivolous aesthetics I employed 4 artists, paid them nothing and did not credit them (by name) during the 2 exhibitions of this work. The projected video consists of an image of the artist welding the steel object, alternating with an image of dreamy sparklers (child-safe fireworks) burning on an immaterial black background.

WorkThat Stands in theWay of Workes una instalación que utiliza el trabajo anónimo de 4 artistas profesionales, una proyección de vídeo iluminando una configuración de objetos y una narración grabada que acompaña el vídeo. Esta obra es un ensayo sobre la cantidad de trabajo y trabajadores que se necesitan para producir una obra de arte, en muchos casos atribuida a un solo autor. Conseguí a un artista para que construyera la estructura de manera gratuita. Conseguí a otro artista para transportar y almacenar la instalación entre exposición y exposición por el precio de 3 notas del Banco de Tiempo. Pedí prestado de aún otro artista un gran espejo para dos exposiciones (una en GEMAK, una en KABK) y, finalmente, le pedí a otro artista más que soldara un objeto de acero tridimensional independiente. Todo este trabajo fue necesario para que pudiera producir la manifestación física de una imagen caprichosa. En nombre de la estética frívola empleé a 4 artistas, no les pagué nada y no mencioné su nombre en ninguna de las dos exposiciones de esta obra. El video proyectado consiste en una imagen del artista soldando el objeto de acero, alternada con la imagen de cohetes oníricos (fuegos artificiales a prueba de niños) consumiéndose delante de un fondo negro inmaterial.
