(ENG) Gerard Ortín combines his artistic practice and music formation to experiment with various audiovisual, sound and performative formats. His work questions the meaning of nature and this enquiry comes to term by exploring other realted concepts such as the animal, the non-human, the landscape, the territory, the domestication, the vegetable or the telluric etc. After having spent five years exploring the representation of the garden of his house (understood as the interstitial space between his home and the forest) his practice has been extended to other territories in an attempt to address subjects related to global ecology from specific local case studies. 

(CAST) Gerard Ortín combina su formación artística y musical para experimentar con diversos formatos audiovisuales, sonoros y performativos. Su trabajo se interroga sobre aquello que rodea la noción de naturaleza, tratando de proponer mecanismos para su necesaria actualización y cuestionamiento. Así, esta idea se interpela desde otros lugares o conceptos (la animalidad, lo no-humano, el paisaje, el territorio, la domesticación, lo vegetal o lo telúrico) donde el medio empleado es un resorte más para trazar relaciones entre estos. Tras centrarse cinco años en explorar la representación del jardín de su casa, entendido como espacio intersticial entre el hogar y el bosque, su práctica se ha ampliado a otros territorios para tratar de abordar cuestiones relativas de la ecología global desde casos de estudio locales y específicos.

(ENG) Gerard Ortín Castellví (b. 1988, Barcelona) is an artist and filmmaker. He recently finished the Goldsmiths Artists' Film and Moving Image MA, after completing an MFA at Sandberg Instituut (Amsterdam). He has recently shown his work at LUX (London) and exhibited at Fundació Joan Miró (Barcelona) as well as in Tabakalera (Donostia-San Sebastián), Stedelijk Museum Buro of Amsterdam (Amsterdam), Office for Contemporary Art (Oslo), Open (Reykjavík), Seager Gallery (London). His works have been screened in places like the Anthology Film Archives (NY), Zumzeig Cinecooperativa (BCN), Numax (Santiago de Compostela). He collaborates with the artists and filmmaker coop Tractora based in the Basque Country. His last film Reserve, received the mention to the best short at the 42 edition of Festival Cinéma du Réel (Paris).

He has worked with Galeria Estrany-de la Mota in Barcelona and collaborates with the artists and filmmaker coop Tractora as well as with production company Prienaika.

Es licenciado en Bellas Artes por la Universitat de Barcelona, MFA en el Sandberg Instituut de Ámsterdam y MA en Artists' Film and Moving Image en Goldsmiths University of London, donde actualmente realiza un doctorado. Ha expuesto en la Fundació Joan Miró (Barcelona) así como en Tabakalera (Donostia), Stedelijk Museum Bureau of Amsterdam, Office for Contemporary Art (Oslo), Open (Reykjavík), Seager Gallery (Londres), Vitrine (Londres). Sus trabajos se han proyectado en sitios como LUX (Londres), Anthology Film Archives (Nueva York), Zumzeig Cinecooperativa (Barcelona) o Numax (Santiago de Compostela). Su ultima película Reserve recibió la mención al mejor corto en la edición 42.ª edición del Festival Cinéma du Réel (Paris).

Ha trabajado con la Galería Estrany-de la Mota en Barcelona y a menudo colabora con la cooperativa de artistas y cineastas Tractora así como con la productora Pirenaika.
