(ENG) Throughout his career, German filmmaker and artist Harun Farocki (1944-2014) crafted a politicized body of work that focused on analyzing the making and circulation of images within contemporaneity. His work, ever more relevant in times of hyperconnection, can be seen on this exhibition, which gathers 15 pieces, from video installations to films, where the artist reflects on the use of diverse imagery – from photography to computer graphics – in the context of social observation and control systems. The selection was done by Antje Ehmann, curator for the Harun Farocki estate, in Berlin, and Heloisa Espada, visual arts curator for IMS.
The exhibition presents an overall take of Farocki's work since the early days of his career in 1964, up until the time of his passing in 2014. With over a hundred films and videos under his belt, the artist was heavily influenced by the political discussions that marked the end of the 60s. A witness to the Vietnam War and the student protests of that time, Harun was an ardent critic of the cultural industry, advocating for, along Jean Luc-Godard and others from his generation, activist, politically-charged cinema. In the 1990s, Farocki started to showcase his work on museums and galleries, becoming a reference in the video art segment.

(CAST) A lo largo de su carrera, el cineasta y artista alemán Harun Farocki (1944-2014) creó una obra politizada que se centró en el análisis de la creación y circulación de imágenes dentro de la contemporaneidad. Su obra, cada vez más relevante en tiempos de hiperconexión, puede verse en esta exposición, que reúne 15 piezas, desde videoinstalaciones hasta películas, donde el artista reflexiona sobre el uso de diversas imágenes -desde la fotografía hasta la infografía- en el contexto de la observación social y los sistemas de control. La selección fue realizada por Antje Ehmann, comisaria del Harun Farocki State, en Berlín, y Heloisa Espada, comisaria de artes visuales de IMS.
La exposición presenta una visión global de la obra de Farocki desde los primeros días de su carrera en 1964, hasta su fallecimiento en 2014. Con más de un centenar de películas y vídeos a sus espaldas, el artista se vio muy influenciado por las discusiones políticas que marcaron el final de los años sesenta. Testigo de la guerra de Vietnam y de las protestas estudiantiles de la época, Harun fue un ardiente crítico de la industria cultural, defendiendo, junto con Jean Luc-Godard y otros de su generación, el cine activista y político. En los años 90, Farocki comenzó a mostrar su trabajo en museos y galerías, convirtiéndose en un referente en el segmento del videoarte.
