Jaime Pitarch

(Barcelona, 1963)

2.200 minutes, 2018

Installation. Clock, microphone, speaker

(ENG) Jaume Pitarch's project stems from the desire to pay tribute to the estimated 2,200 workers of the old Can Batlló factory. To this end, Pitarch has searched the names of these workers in different archives in Catalonia. His search, however, has been unsuccessful; he has not found a register or directory of the people who worked in Can Batlló. In the Noble Room of the Clock Building, where Pitarch makes his intervention, there are instead the names of outstanding personalities from the fields of science, technology and industry. Names such as Archimedes, Bel, Einstein, Edison, Monturiol, Watt and many others seem to celebrate the history of scientific and technological progress. While the names of the great inventors are immortalized throughout the centuries, many times those of the workers who have put their work force at the service of the great inventions and scientific and technological instruments tend to be forgotten.
