Jan Kopp

Jan Kopp was born in 1970 in Frankfurt/Main (Germany). He graduated from École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts in Paris in 1996 while studying philosophy at Paris IV, La Sorbonne. He was artist in residence at PS1/Moma in New York (1999/2001) and was granted with several other residencies in Europe. He lives and works in Paris and Berlin, where he is presently working on a research project with a grant by the French Ministry of Culture (CNAP) .
His recent projects include solo exhibitions at Centre d’art Contemporain, Abbaye de Maubuisson (2011, France), Kunstraum Dornbirn (2010, Austria) at FRAC Alsace, (2008, France) , at Centre d’art de la Bastille, Grenoble (2008, France) and at Martos Gallery in New York (2008).
Jan Kopp has participated in numerous international group shows among which are Clockwork, PS1/MOMA, New York (2000), the 6th Biennale de Lyon (2001, France), Traversée, Musée d’art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (2002), I need You,Kunsthaus Biel/Bienne, Switzerland (2004), Singuliers, Museum of Modern Art, Canton, China (2005), Translation, MMOMA, Moscow (2008), Fragile, Musée d’art Contemporain, St Etienne, France (2009), Res Publica, MMOMA, Moscow (2010),Architecture, Utopies, Desssin, MNAC, Bucharest (2011) and L’Enigme du Portrait, MAC, Marseille (2011).
His latest monography "das endlose Spiel - le Jeu san fin" has been published by Kunstraum Dornbirn, edited by Verlag für moderne Kunst, Nürnberg, 2010.
A new monography is in preparation with Editions Filigranes, Paris.
