"Chez les indiens" or "Where the Indians are" is embroidered on a floral pattern. “Where the Indians are” would be for us the ultimate expression of otherness, the unknown, the wild. This pattern, on the other hand, is a cultural, trite, domestic cliché. Like the fabric upholstery found in grandma's chair.
