STATEMENT

(ENG) Martha Rosler is an artist, theoretician and an essential figure of contemporary feminist discourses; as well as being among the first generation of artists who worked with video. In her works Rosler uses video, photography, text, installation and performance with which she dissects the boundaries between the public and the private sphere, the social and the political. Her committed work analyzes postmodern society and tends to center around public space and city planning, exploring themes that fluctuate between everyday life and the media, architecture, the spaces created by it and the people who inhabit them.She has also published numerous books of his works as well as essays that explore the role of photography and art, public space, transportation, as well as access to housing, gentrification and homeless people.

(CAST) Martha Rosler es artista, teórica y figura esencial de los discursos feministas contemporáneos; además de encontrarse entre la primera generación de artistas que trabajaron con video. En sus obras Rosler utiliza el video, la fotografía, el texto, la instalación y la performance con las que disecciona los límites entre la esfera pública y la privada, lo social y lo político. Su comprometido trabajo analiza la sociedad posmoderna y tiende a centrarse alrededor del espacio público y el urbanismo de las ciudades, explorando temas que fluctúan entre la vida cotidiana y los medios de comunicación, a la arquitectura, los espacios creados por ésta y las personas que los habitan . También ha publicado numerosos libros de sus obras así como ensayos que exploran el papel de la fotografía y el arte, el espacio público, el transporte, así como el acceso a la vivienda, la gentrificación y las personas 'sin techo'.

(ENG) Martha Rosler was born in Brooklyn, where she continues to live and work. She attended the Brooklyn College of the City University of New York and the University of California, San Diego, where she received her BFA and MFA respectively. She has had numerous solo exhibitions at various institutions, internationally, including MACBA, Barcelona (2017), Seattle Museum of Art (2016); Sprengel Museum, Hannover (2013), MOMA, New York, (2012); The Centro José Guerrero, Granada (2009-10); La Virreina, Barcelona (2010), the Centre Pompidou, Paris (2007); the Museum of Modern Art, Oxford (1990); and the Dia Art Foundation, New York (1989). She has been included in numerous group exhibitions at institutions such as the Hamburger Kunsthalle (2017), The Serralves Museum, Porto (2017), The Brooklyn Museum, New York (2015); The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2015); the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid (2013); the LA Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, (2011), Skulptur Projekte Münster 07; dOCUMENTA 7(1982) & dOCUMENTA 12 (2007), Kassel; the Venice Biennale (2003); the Liverpool Biennial (2004), Tate Modern, London, and many other international and national venues. Rosler has also published 17 books of photography, art, and writing, in several languages. Her work has been recognized with numerous prizes including the Guggenheim Museum Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010, Spectrum International Prize in Photography (2005), and Oskar Kokoschka Prize (2006) amongst other. This year she has been awarded with the Hamburg Lichtwark Prize. 

(CAST) Martha Rosler nació en Brooklyn, donde continúa viviendo y trabajando. Estudió Bellas Artes en el Brooklyn College de la City University de Nueva York y en la Universidad de San Diego, California, donde se licenció en Bellas Artes y obtuvo un Master en Bellas Artes respectivamente. Ha realizado numerosas exposiciones individuales en diversas instituciones y galerías, a nivel internacional, entre ellas podemos destacar en el MACBA, Barcelona (2017), Seattle Museum of Art (2016); Museo Sprengel, Hannover (2013), MOMA, Nueva York, (2012); El Centro José Guerrero, Granada (2009-10); La Virreina, Barcelona (2010), el Centro Pompidou, París (2007); el Museo de Arte Moderno, Oxford (1990); y la Dia Art Foundation, Nueva York (1989). Ha participado en numerosas exposiciones colectivas en instituciones como la Hamburger Kunsthalle (2017), el Museo de Serralves, Porto (2017), el Brooklyn Museum, Nueva York (2015); Museo Whitney de Arte Americano, Nueva York (2015); el Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid (2013); el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de LA, Los Angeles, (2011), Skulptur Projekte Münster 07; dOCUMENTA 7 (1982) & dOCUMENTA 12 (2007), Kassel; la Bienal de Venecia (2003); la Bienal de Liverpool (2004), Tate Modern, Londres, y muchos más. Rosler también ha publicado 17 libros de fotografía, arte y teoría, en varios idiomas. Su trabajo ha sido reconocido con numerosos premios tales como el Guggenheim Museum Lifetime Achievement Award, otorgado en 2010, el Spectrum International Prize de Fotografía (2005), el Oskar Kokoschka Prize (2006) entre otros.
