Nilbar Güreş
(Istanbul, 1977)(ENG) Nilbar Güreş (b. 1977, Istanbul) received a B.A. in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Marmara University, Istanbul, and an M.A. in Painting & Graphics from the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna. Upon receiving her M.A., the artist studied Art and Textile Pedagogy at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
Nilbar Güreş’s practice spans photography, video, film, painting, performance, sculpture, installation and mixed media collage on fabric. Güreş’s works depart from biography then swirls around to address larger issues. Güreş is particularly sound to social injustice, gender roles and cultural identity codes – she researches, documents and finds poetic ways to flout conventions in witty figurations.
Nilbar Güreş lives and works in Naples, Vienna and Istanbul.

(CAST) Nilbar Güreş (n. 1977, Estambul) obtuvo una licenciatura en Pintura en la Facultad de Bellas Artes de la Universidad de Mármara, Estambul, y una maestría en Pintura y Gráfica en la Academia de Bellas Artes de Viena. Tras finalizar su maestría, estudió Pedagogía del Arte y el Textil en la Universidad de Artes Aplicadas de Viena.
La práctica de Nilbar Güreş abarca fotografía, vídeo, cine, pintura, performance, escultura, instalación y collage mixto sobre tela. Sus obras parten de la biografía para luego expandirse hacia cuestiones más amplias. Güreş muestra especial sensibilidad hacia la injusticia social, los roles de género y los códigos de identidad cultural; investiga, documenta y encuentra formas poéticas de desafiar las convenciones mediante figuraciones ingeniosas.
Nilbar Güreş vive y trabaja en Nápoles, Viena y Estambul.
