[ENG] Melted into the Sun is a work inspired by Al-Muqanna, an enigmatic Afghan figure, spiritual and political leader, and creator of the ‘people dressed in white’ movement in Central Asia in the 8th century. It also speculates on the cultural and political echoes of his revolutionary ideas. Raised in the Zoroastrian tradition, Al-Muqanna was inspired by the power of the sun, which they considered a purifying and centralising deity that would bring about social justice. His legacy, which today could be considered ‘proto-socialist’, was appropriated by the regional Soviet propaganda machine as a nativist hero about how to rise up and fight for the common distribution of property and wealth. Melted into the Sun visits locations related to his exploits, now considered legendary. It takes us to the banks of the Amu Darya River, to the circular cemetery of Chillpiq and to the city of Bukhara. This visual journey through time analyses Al-Muqanna's mastery of illusion and science for demagogic purposes and reflects on the central role that technology and the manipulation of the Earth have played in maintaining power structures since ancient times. Together, the lyrical sequences, complete with reflections and flashes of light, and the textural soundtrack metaphorically address the dual aspect of Al-Muqanna's story, who ultimately fell into the darkness he opposed, turning his ideal citadel to ashes, while his powerful and still unanswered questions continue to resonate in our time.
[CAST] Melted into the sun es una obra inspirada en Al-Muqanna, una enigmática figura afgana, líder espiritual y político, creador del movimiento de “gente vestida de blanco” en Asia Central en el siglo VIII. También especuló sobre los ecos culturales y políticos de sus ideas revolucionarias. Criado en la tradición zoroástica, Al-Muqanna se inspiró en el poder del sol, al que consideraban una deidad purificadora y centralizadora que conseguiría la justicia social. Su legado, que hoy podría considerarse “protosocialista”, fue apropiado por la maquinaria regional de propaganda soviética como un héroe nativista sobre cómo levantarse y luchar por el reparto común de la propiedad y la riqueza. Melted into the sun recorre escenarios relacionados a sus proezas, hoy en día consideradas legendarias. Nos lleva a las orillas del río Amu Darya, al cementerio circular de Chillpiq y a la ciudad de Bujará. Este viaje visual en el tiempo analiza el dominio de Al-Muqanna de la ilusión y la ciencia con fines demagógicos y reflexiona sobre el papel central que la tecnología y la manipulación de la Tierra han desempeñado en el mantenimiento de las estructuras de poder desde la antigüedad. En conjunto, las secuencias líricas, completadas con reflejos y destellos de luz, y la banda sonora textural, abordan metafóricamente el doble aspecto de la historia de Al-Muqanna, quien finalmente cayó en la oscuridad a la que se oponía, convirtiendo su ciudadela ideal en cenizas, mientras sigue haciendo resonar en nuestro tiempo sus poderosas y aún sin respuesta preguntas.
