Peter Downsbrough (Solo show): "Peter Downsbrough", Galerie LRS52, Liège. 29.08.21 > 26.09.21
(ENG)Visiting an exhibition in 1926, the writer Robert Walser, a master of the short form and melancholic candour, was so pleased with what he saw that he described himself as 'somehow luminous'. This is how I feel every time I see a Downsbrough work. Adding words to it puts academicism where air flows freely, grammar where poetry flourishes, and values the concept over the experience. This is what we must avoid; the informed reader can still escape to enjoy freely the moment of peace, play and light that Downbrough's works offer. And for example in the public space of Liège: at the Musée en plein air du Sart-Tilman (TOUR/ AU, DE, LA, LE, RE, 2007), around the Musée de la vie wallonne (TEMPS/DE, ET, LA, LE/ DANS, 2008) and finally, since the end of 2019, on the façade of the new LRS52 gallery: ET/AU/DELA.
(CAST) Al visitar una exposición en 1926, el escritor Robert Walser, maestro de la forma breve y del candor melancólico, quedó tan satisfecho con lo que vio que se describió a sí mismo como "algo luminoso". Esto es lo que siento cada vez que veo una obra de Downsbrough. Añadir palabras pone el academicismo donde el aire fluye libremente, la gramática donde florece la poesía, y valora el concepto por encima de la experiencia. Esto es lo que hay que evitar; el lector informado puede seguir escapando para disfrutar libremente del momento de paz, juego y luz que ofrecen las obras de Downbrough. Y, por ejemplo, en el espacio público de Lieja: en el Musée en plein air du Sart-Tilman (TOUR/ AU, DE, LA, LE, RE, 2007), alrededor del Musée de la vie wallonne (TEMPS/DE, ET, LA, LE/ DANS, 2008) y, por último, desde finales de 2019, en la fachada de la nueva galería LRS52: ET/AU/DELA.
